In 1999, nine years after Dick and I worked together at the old studios of WCSJ in Morris, I was putting together economic development tours of Grundy County for the GEDC. Dick invited me to come on his show at the newer building to promote the tours. In listening to our interview again now after all these years I'm struck by what a good interviewer Dick was. He was engaged, asked a variety of great questions, was curious and, unlike many in radio, displayed no ego. It was a pleasure both to work with him and to know him.

Dick Steele was very kind to me personally and supported everything good about Immaculate Conception School in the same that he supported everything good about Grundy County. He always honored requests for radio promotion of the school's many events. Dick was a great interviewer and made those being interviewed look great despite any apprehension or nervousness they may have. Talking to Dick was like talking to a friend while enjoying lunch together. He loved to interview kids and he always brought out the best in them Before the days of iTunes, Dick was a great resource for providing tapes of any song or artist. He made tapes for ICS events on more than one occasion. Dick Steele was a wonderful man and his many, many friends mourn his passing knowing that one day we all hope to be together again in God's Presence.

I was so sorry to hear about Mr. Steele. I was just asking about him over the weekend. I took care of him every M-W-F when he came for his treatments. He was always so nice to me and loved to talk. He knew I sincerely cared about him. I truly did and am so sorry I didn't get to see him again before he had to leave us. I met his daughters and spoke to them on several occasions concerning their dad. I want to extend my arms and give you both a BIG (((((((HUG))))))). He loved his family very much and talked about many of you often. He also told me how very much he loved Catalina Island, CA. I am sure he paid it a visit as he was leaving for his heavenly home. I hope that soon all the memories of your beloved will heal the pain and grief you feel right now. He lived quite a life and legacy here on earth that I am sure you all are very proud of. Think of him during a thunderstorm and when you hear the thunder, Dick is keeping score as the angels bowl at the bowling lanes and is broadcasting it to the heavenly host as he sits with all his family there. Love and comfort to you all. I will always remember him.
Sincerely,
Nancy Arozamena, RN

I got to know Dick pretty well during my tenure with the Grundy County Chamber. The Chamber had a regular spot on "People Are Talking" and it helped greatly to raise the profile of the Chamber and what it does for the communities it serves. He was very instrumental in growing the gift certificate program that benefits so many businesses in the area. He was one of the nicest guys I've ever met and I know he will be missed greatly. My condolences to his family and the entire Grundy County community.

I am so sorry to hear of his passing. He was a great man. I have lived down a couple houses for over 20 years. Your parents were one of a kind. My girls would always tell me that mr Steele gave them candy again today. I have missed hearing his voice on the radio. I will miss seeing him down the block. He will be missed by all. Now he is reunited with your mom.
Prayers & hugs to your family
