Age 78, a lifelong resident of Joliet, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Thursday, June 1, 2017 at home.
Born August 24, 1938 in Manhattan, to Mabel (nee Fugett) and Elijah Leadingham, she attended Joliet Central High School. Marlene was a member of the Joliet Church of Christ and worked for Gompers Junior High as a cook for many years before retirement.
Marlene’s greatest passion was cooking and baking for her family and spending time with them. No one could ever walk in her home and not eat. She will be remembered for her giving and caring spirit, always putting everyone else’s needs before her own.
Survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Roy Norris; two daughters, Catherine (Steve) Parks and Sandra (Frank) Forsythe; two sons, Timothy (Michelle) Norris and Jeffrey (Kathy) Norris; six grandchildren, Stephen, Gina, Kristin, Katelyn, Jessica and Jesse; six great-grandchildren, Alex, Kacie, Jason, Ricky, Collin and Jayden; numerous nieces and nephews; and a dear friend, Maria Lerma.
Preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Phillip, Ronald and Brian Norris; two brothers, Curtis and Everette Leadingham; two sisters, Doris Minor and Shirley Hardie; and a dear aunt and uncle, Goldie and Jesse Fugett.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 5, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet where visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in Elmhurst Cemetery.
