Rogelio Chavez
Rogelio Chavez, 92, of Romeoville, IL died June 10, 2017 after a long and fulfilling life. He was born on May 24, 1925 in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Meliton and Martina Chavez-Sanchez. He served in World War II in the U.S. Navy beginning December 14, 1942 and was honorably discharged on January 3, 1946. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Crest Hill. Rogelio was an avid Cubs fan from the time of his youth until his death. He was known by all for his gentle personality, his infectious smile, his never ending generosity to others and more importantly, his love of family. He is survived by his beloved wife (Irene Ortiz Chavez), and his four children Belinda McGlynn (Edmund) of Lake Forest, IL, Patricia Slagle (Rick) of North Charleston, SC, Edward R. Chavez (Lynne) of Wheaton, IL, and Nina Chavez-Adams (Steven) of Geneva, IL. Rogelio was especially proud of his amazing 7 grandchildren -- Michael McGlynn, Kelly Lamb (Cortney), Candice Siersma (Jason), Andrew Chavez (Tiziana), Lisa Hubartt (Darren), Heather Ambris (Jerrod), Andrea McCoy (Pauly) and 13 great grandchildren Jack, Morgan, Henry and Charlie McGlynn; Tyler Lamb, Michael and Bella Siersma, Brayden Hubartt, Talyn and Olivia Ambris, and Pauly, Levi and Ryder McCoy.
He was preceded in death by his parents Martina and Meliton Chavez and by his brothers Escolastico (Lito) Chavez (Mary); Esequiel (TiTe) Chavez (Edith), Frank Chavez (Lillian) and by his sisters, Helen Eclarin (Eugene) and Angelina Cabrera (Jim). Rogelio also has two surviving sisters Delia Guillen (Frank) and Martina (Buga) Schneider (George).
Funeral services for Rogelio Chavez will be held Wednesday June 14, 2017 11a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) Joliet. Interment will follow in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in the name of Rogelio Chavez to Transitions Hospice, 12040 Raymond Court, Huntley, IL 60142.
