Obituary of Edward J. Schutter
Edward J. Schutter
Edward J. Schutter, age 96, of Joliet, passed away peacefully, Friday, July 14, 2017 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center with his loving family by his side.
Born October 23, 1920 in Joliet, he was the son of Fred and Margaret Schutter. He proudly served with the United States Army during World War II and was employed as a salesman and manager in the men’s clothing industry for various firms including the Boston Store, Al Baskin, and Mark Shale.
Ed was a devout Catholic and faithful member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He enjoyed all sports, especially baseball, and loved to play cards with his family. For many years he gardened and generously shared the fruits of his labors with family and friends.
Ed was greatly influenced by his early family life and as a result was determined to be a devoted husband and father. He had an enduring love and commitment to his wife of 60 years, “Alice.” Ed succeeded at being a great family man who would do anything for his boys. He also had a terrific sense of humor.
Surviving are his four sons, Jim (Melinda Wilson) Schutter, Jerry (Dory) Schutter, Ed (Linda) Schutter, Jr., and Mike (Nena) Schutter; eight grandchildren, James, Ryan, Kyle, Rachel, Jamie (Josh) Long, Lindsey (Parker) Ferguson, Ella and Samuel; and two great-grandchildren, Payton and Tyler.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ella E. “Alice” (Gallinot) Schutter (November 29, 2005); his parents; and his brothers and sisters, Joseph, Robert, Elmer, Margaret and Catherine.
