Dr. Kietzman was the largest influence on my college life & general direction thereafter. From arranging for me work with the legendary Dr. Terese Southgate to trusting me to help her launch the online learning program, or, hell being able to raise a kid, Karen always believed in me & I am eternally grateful.

I send my prayers to you and for Karen. She was a wonderful teacher and so creative. I learned a lot from her when I worked in the art room when I attended CSF. May she Rest In Peace.

Thank you Aunt Karen for being a very special person to us and you impacted our lives significantly. Even at the end of your life, you were giving us the greatest gifts. You were such a loving, caring, non-judgmental person. We love you and you will be missed.

Dear All,
Unfortunately, I am not able to attend the Memorial Mass for Karen M. Kietzman, but I pay tribute to this great lady:
When I first set foot on the USF campus (then CSF) in 1976, some of the first people I met were Karen, Pat Sullivan James P. McCabe, and 40+ Franciscan Nuns. Of course Pat and James P., were only interested in what kind of beer I drank and when I was going to take them out to "happy hour". Karen also threw her hat into the ring as well and little did I know at the time that it would take all of Karen's efforts, Pat's tireless oversight, the great James P's. due diligence along with all the great faith of Franciscan Nuns (that I was salvageable) and each would take turns to guide and mentor me.
Karen was a great friend to Nancy and me; she was an admired colleague, outstanding teacher, and talented artist. She was a person of the highest level of integrity, always put students first, was the first person to support others, and a most trustworthy person to all, especially to Barb and Marge.
Additionally, Karen was always willing to learn new skills, try new things, and was never judgmental. For example, she learned from James P., and myself how to roll and smoke a homemade cigar (made of green cabbage leaves and corn silk from sweet corn) fresh from Izzy's garden; also on the same occasion,Tom Boeke made her a home brew Nicholoska (Fictitious Russian drink made of Vodka, used coffee grounds, and a dash of lime juice over ice). After turning pale green and gagging on both, she stated, "Goodness how I love both the cigar and the drink."
Karen was instrumental in support of the Therapeutic Recreation program and developed an Art Curriculum which supported the TR program. She was a person of great faith, highly influential, and helped me become a better teacher, better person, better adviser, and was a true friend.
The College/University is a better place because of you. Sweetie, you will be missed by all and Rest in Peace!

So sorry to hear that Karen has left us. We volunteered with her for several years in the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Raymond parish in Joliet. She was a dedicated and caring person. She was also a fun-loving person, and we enjoyed many SVDP social gatherings at her home. The world needs more people like her! May she rest in peace!

Although I wasn't an arts major/minor, I learned so much from Karen about life and art. I was her student aide from 1988 to 1991 at St. Francis. I have always appreciated the faith she had in me and my abilities. I'll always remember her kindness and grace, but her self confidence and drive inspired me. She was such a lovely woman.

Karen was a wonderful teacher. She was inspiring to young art students, like myself. To her, all things were possible. I was always amazed by all the things she did in her lifetime. She knew no bounds. Feeling blessed to have known her.

Karen was one of my absolute favorite instructors at CSF. Her pottery class brought relief to my otherwise stressful days. Her death is certainly a blow to both the art and educational world.

As a student and as a worker in the Fine Arts Dept. at USF, I learned so much from Karen. She was a champion of learning and living....and I have carried these tenets with me in my professional and personal life ever since.

It was a pleasure to know you & a privilege to volunteer with you. You will be dearly missed but knowing you are at peace & pain free helps ease the pain of your passing.
