Anita Schiavi

Obituary of Anita Marie Schiavi

Anita Marie Schiavi

On Wednesday, July 19, 2017, the healing hands of Anita Marie Schiavi were called from this life to do greater work.  She passed away peacefully at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home following a Superhuman (as only Anita could) battle with cancer, with her family by her side. Born in Evergreen Park , IL , and raised on the south side of Chicago , she made Joliet her home in 1975.  She was a graduate of Mount Assisi Academy in Lemont, Chicago School of Massage Therapy and Lewis University .   Anita’s love of music knew no bounds.  She was an accomplished opera singer and her “out of practice” voice was as beautiful as her performing voice.

Anita was the founder of The Wellness Center in Joliet .  As described by a colleague in the field, Anita “was a healer, mentor, visionary, genius, with a “hint” of stubbornness, and a big heart to help others.  Some people have an enormous impact on our lives and Anita was one of those people.”

Survived by her loving and devoted husband of 42 years, Charles J. Schiavi; one son, Eric Schiavi, his partner David Hoyt; one daughter, Amanda Preis; her grandson, Quinn, all of Joliet; and two nieces, Kim Wilson and Lorrie (John) Fitzpatrick, and friend and business partner Rita Travis.  Her legacy continues on through the many people she touched and healed throughout her time here with us.

As it was Anita’s final request, a Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 13 at the Universalist Unitarian Church of Joliet, 3401 W. Jefferson St., Joliet , IL , from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  All who knew her are welcome.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet , IL.  For more information, please call 815-741-5500 or visit her Memorial Tribute at www.fredcdames.com
