Orland E. Berg
Orland E. Berg passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at The Timbers of Shorewood at the age of 94. He was born in Minooka, IL the son of the late John and Ruth (nee Knudson) Berg and was a lifelong resident.
Orland is survived by his two children, Karen Berg of Overland Park, KS and James (Connie) Berg of Minooka; his grandson, Christopher (Aimee) Berg of Minooka; his granddaughter, Sheri (Eddie) Chartrand of Minooka; his five great grandchildren, Alex Wampler, Sophia Chartrand, Dawson Berg, Benjamin Chartrand and Sawyer Berg and his sister, Marjorie (the late Lester) Mehlberg of Bloomington. He was the uncle of several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his loving wife of 68 years, Audrey (nee Freye) Berg (2015); his infant daughter and his brother, William Berg (2010).
Orland met Audrey while they were both working for Frankfort Sailplane Company prior to his deployment into the U.S. Army where he landed at Omaha Beach (DDay+6) and survived the Battle of the Bulge. They were married after his return from World War II, February 15, 1947, where they moved to the rural Plattville/Minooka area where Orland farmed all of his life.
Orland’s passion in life was his family and farming.
Orland E. Berg will lie in state at Platville Lutheran Church, 5475 Bell Road, Minooka, IL 60447 on Monday, August 7, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Bret Reedy officiating. Interment will follow in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to the Platville Lutheran Church would be appreciated. Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, Morris Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
