Michael J. Kovalcik passed away Friday, September 1, 2017 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center at the Age of 60. He was born in Joliet to the late Stephen and Loretta (Lewek) Kovalcik. He was a lifelong resident until moving to Ft. Myers, Florida in December. Mike was a graduate of Joliet East High School with the Class of 1974. He was an avid Harley rider, a fitness enthusiast, and he loved the beach and his pool. Mike was also a member of the N.R.A. He had recently retired as owner/operator of Quality Construction.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Sandra (Carra) Kovalcik of Ft. Myers, Florida; his son, Joseph (fiance' Katie McLane) Kovalcik of Palos Hills, IL; his step-children, Kristyn Sova, of Joliet, and Matthew Sova, of Grand Rapids, MI; his three sisters, Antoinette (the late James) Wicburg of Ft. Myers, FL, Catherine (Doug) Apgar, of Frisco, TX, and Laurie (Michael) Boban of New Lenox; his brother, Stephen Kovalcik of Chicago; several nieces, nephews and many special friends also survive.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his step-daughter, Rebecca Rose Sova (2013).
Funeral Services for Michael J. Kovalcik will be Saturday, September 9, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet, IL. Interment will be held privately by the family. Memorials in his name to the Wounded Warriors Project would be appreciated.
