Obituary of Dorothy Darling
Dorothy M. Darling, (nee Norman), age 91, of Plainfield, passed away peacefully, Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Lakewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Plainfield, with her family by her side.
Born July 29, 1926 in Chicago, she was the daughter of the late George and Ethel (nee Gruss) Norman. She married her beloved husband of 60 years, Emery C. Darling, on September 23, 1949 in Joliet. He passed away December 30, 2009. Her dear sister and best friend, Ethel "Tootie" Block; brother-in-law, Elmer "Bill" Block; her husband's parents, Charles and Amy Darling; a nephew, Dale Block; her husband's sisters, Elnora (Harry) Rasmussen, Alta (Walter) Reeves and Stella (George) Rambo; and her husband's nieces, Nancy (Patrick) Coyne and Harriet (Edward) Richards also preceded her in death.
Dorothy was a graduate of Oak Park-River Forest High School, Class of 1944. She retired as a Supervisor for Illinois Bell Telephone Company, and later worked for the Plainfield Township Park District. She was a member of St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church and the Joliet Women of the Moose, Charter 84, and a former member and officer of the Joliet Business and Professional Women's Club.
Surviving are her nephews, Gregg (Karen) Block, Michael (Karen) Block, and the late Dale (Michelle) Block; and great niece and nephews, Lindsey (Kalani) Snyder and Jeffrey (Thea) Block, Alex and Phillip Block, and Erik and Nick Block. Also surviving are her husband's nieces and nephew, Janet (late Raymond) Reardon, Ronald (the late Edna) Reeves, Diane (the late Norman Allen) Keck, and Patsy (Don) Janes.
Funeral services for Dorothy M. Darling will be held Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington, Roads, Joliet. Interment will be in Plainfield Township Cemetery. Memorials in her name to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated. Visitation will be held Wednesday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., and Thursday morning, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
