George Vukonich, Jr.
Age 97, late of Ottawa and longtime resident of Joliet, passed away peacefully, Friday, November 24, 2017, at Aperion Care Marseilles. Born May 15, 1920 in Novinger, Missouri, he was the son of George and Anna (nee Klobuchar) Vukonich. He married his beloved Catherine Sophia "Kay" (nee Vanchina) Vukonich and they enjoyed 57 years of marriage prior to her passing October 28, 2010. George was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. He retired from Electro-Motive as a supervisor after many years of service and was a member of St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church.
Surviving are his devoted son, George (Maureen, nee Racich) Vukonich of Ottawa; his granddaughter, Stephanie (Juan) Gonzalez; great granddaughter, Sophia Gonzalez; and his grand dog, Indie.
He was preceded by his loving wife, Kay Vukonich; one son, William Vukonich; his parents; one brother, Frank (Mary) Vukonich; and two sisters, Lenora Carolyn (Robert) Daniels and Mary Frances (Emery) Burris.
Funeral services for George Vukonich, Jr. will be held Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet. Interment will follow at St. Mary Nativity Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services.
