Michael D. Malloy
Michael Dennis Malloy, age 78, of Shorewood, passed away peacefully, Thursday, December 21, 2017 at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Mike was born January 15, 1939 in Joliet, to Donald J. and Honora “Jayne” (nee Glass) Malloy. He was a graduate of St. John the Baptist Grade School, Joliet Catholic High School, and attended Lewis University.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving two enlistments from 1960 to 1967, working as a Dental Technician at the U. S. Naval Medical Center San Diego, CA.
Mike enjoyed a long and rewarding career with Prudential Insurance. He was an active member of the Pure Rod and Gun Club of Plainfield, the Irish American Society of County Will, and served on the Board of Directors of the Downers Grove Sportsmen Club. While his children were growing up, he spent many years coaching youth baseball.
Mike was a great friend to many, and often asked what he did to deserve the friendship of so many wonderful people in his life.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Alice (McCauley) Malloy of Tiskilwa; four devoted children, Michael Dennis “M.D.” (fiancée Linda) Malloy, Jr., Sean Malloy, Kevin (Barbi) Malloy, and Erin (Tony) Lalich; four precious grandchildren, Reid, Adelyn Grace, Kai and Connor; two brothers, Daniel Malloy and Timothy (Colleen) Malloy; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald, in 1996; his mother, Jayne, in 2017, and his brother, Patrick, in 1995.
Funeral services for Michael Dennis Malloy will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 9:15 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet, to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 18 N. Woodlawn Avenue, Joliet, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m.
Interment will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Navy and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Joliet Area Community Hospice or the Downers Grove Sportsmen Club would be appreciated.
