Obituary of Ralph Edward Blythe, Jr.
Ralph Edward “REB” Blythe, Jr. age 43, of Indianapolis, IN and formerly of Lafayette, IN and Crest Hill, IL, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 4, 2018 in Indianapolis.
Born September 18, 1974 in Joliet, he was a graduate of Chaney Monge School in Crest Hill, and Lockport Township High School, Class of 1992. REB worked as a Disc Jockey for WKHY 93.5 FM in Lafayette for over 20 years, and was Club DJ for the Brass Flamingo in Indianapolis for over 20 years, as well.
REB was a man with many interests and talents. He began studying Martial Arts at the age of five and received his Black Belt at the age of 15. Always a hard worker, he was employed by Joe’s Hot Dogs for three years during high school, and worked as a carpenter and for Apollo Colors for a short time following high school before moving to Indiana.
Music and the Chicago Cubs were his two greatest passions and he considered himself the “Worlds Greatest Cubs Fan.” He had recently begun vacationing in New York to see the Cubs and Yankees play. He was also an avid Chicago Bulls fan.
Surviving are his loving parents, Ralph E. and Rhonda Lee (nee Grafstrom) Blythe, Sr. of Gassville, AR; two sons, Ralph E. “Eddie” Blythe, III and Brian Joseph Blythe; his son’s mother, Jennifer Harris; his maternal grandmother, Virginia Grafstrom; and his aunts and uncles, Ross and Lora Blythe and family, Wayne Grafstrom, Sue and Mark Aultman and family, and Diane Fritz and daughter.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Ronald M. Grafstrom, and his paternal grandparents, Francis E. and Jessie Ruth Blythe.
Visitation for Ralph E. Blythe, Jr. will be held Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet, from 2:00 to 7:30 p.m. A time of remembrance and sharing of memories will begin at 7:30 p.m. Cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation and interment will be private.
REB’s favorite color was purple and his family would be pleased to have you wear or carry something purple in his honor.
