Obituary of Richard Joseph Hanzlik
Richard Joseph Hanzlik
Age 94, of Goose Lake and formerly Downers Grove, IL passed peacefully under hospice care at the Morris Hospital Monday January 8, 2018. He was born June 4, 1923 to the late Marie (Krippner) and Joseph Hanzlik in Chicago where he was raised and educated. He served his Country proudly as a member of the U.S. Army Air Corp serving during WWII. After the war he transition into the Air Force reserves, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Loving and devoted husband of 63 years to Dorothy N. (Jaeger) Hanzlik; beloved father of Cynthia Hanzlik and the late Kathryn Johnston; proud grandfather of Sam and Kyle Johnston; fond brother of Alvin (Camille) Hanzlik and Lillian (the late Eric) Munzenmay; dear father-in-law of Ben Johnston dear uncle of Joseph Munzenmay.
Mr. Hanzlik retired from Akzo Nobel serving many years as an Environmental Engineer. He loved the outdoors and farming. He at one time lived on a farm and always would recall those good days. Photography, travel, stamp collecting and music were other favorite interests of Richard's. He played the clarinet and saxophone in various bands over the years, including a family band which he thoroughly enjoyed.
All friends and relatives are invited to gather on Wednesday January 17, 2018 at 10:30-11:00 a.m. at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 1201 W. Route 6 at Deerpath Drive, Morris. Interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL where Committal Prayers and Full Military Honors will be accorded at 12:00 Noon. Interment will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers memorials in his name can be made to the WWII Memorial Fund, Alzheimers Association or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation.
