Obituary of Dale W. Giesel

Dale Ward Giesel, age 73, late of Winter Springs, FL and formerly of Glen Ellyn and Itasca, IL, passed away peacefully, Thursday, February 1, 2018 at the Hospice of the Comforter in Altamonte Springs, FL, with his loving wife by his side.

Born January 14, 1945 in Chicago, he was the son of the late Raymond Eugene and Marjorie Louise (nee Thorsen) Giesel.  He attended Onarga Military School, and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1986.  He then received his Master’s degree from Mima Management Institute in 1987, and later received an Associate’s of Science degree in Police Science from St. John University in 2000.

Dale was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1963 to 1966.  He worked as a police officer for the City of Titusville, FL for 12 years, and served as Security Supervisor for Valencia State College, Orlando, FL from 1996 to 2008. 

Dale was a member of the Glen Ellyn (IL) Lodge #950 A. F. & A. M., Medinah Shriners, the American Legion, and Veteran’s of Foreign Wars.  He led an active lifestyle and a busy retirement which included water skiing, boar hunting, camping, and during retirement, deep sea fishing, and playing golf.  As a young man, he was an Illinois State Champion Archer.  He was beloved by his family and friends.  He opened up the world to his wife and she will always remember how they enjoyed seeing it together.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Beverlee E. (nee Smith) Giesel of Winter Springs, FL; one brother, Wayne (Diane) Giesel of Schaumburg; two sisters, Pam (the late Robert) Vargo of Villa Park, IL, and Rae (Gary) Paulsen of Lanark, IL; one son, Michael Giesel of Northlake, IL; one daughter, Jessica Goble of Frankfort, KY; and one grandson, William Goble of Frankfort, KY.

Funeral services for Dale W. Giesel will be held Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. Noon at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet, where visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at noon.  Interment will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the United States Army and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad.
