Obituary of John J. Kulaga
John J. Kulaga, age 98, of Plainfield, IL, and formerly of Cicero, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018, at his home. He was born January 27, 1920, to the late George and Marianna (nee Szarek) Kulaga. John was raised and educated in Cicero, IL. As a young man, he served four years with the Civilian Conservation Corps, and worked at Western Electric until he entered the U.S. Navy and served his country proudly during WWII. Upon returning from the war, he resumed working at Western Electric, retiring after many years of dedicated service.
Beloved husband of 58 years to the late Lucille (Kasher) Kulaga; loving father of Mary Ann Cumpata, Sharon L. Allport, Kathleen S. (Richard) Korinek, Kenneth J. Kulaga, JoAnn F. (Keith) Henry, the late Bryan J. Kulaga, Kevin M. Kulaga, John A. Kulaga and Mark R. (Rita) Kulaga; dear grandfather of Jennifer, Kelly (Doug), the late Julie, Christopher (Julie), Amy (Brian), Kourtney, David, John (Lauren), Lyndsay (Richard), Eric (Helen), Jeffrey, Trista, Mitchell, Sydney, Ryan and Anna Marie; fond great-grandfather of Mac, Faith, Dakota, Gabriel, Avery, Christopher Corbin, Coen, Desiray, Caden, Addison, Ethan, James, and Maxwell; and proud great-great grandfather of Nova Wren. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
John was preceded in death by his wife; parents; two brothers, Leo and Florian; and a sister, Julia “Peggy” Ostrowski.
John was a long-time active member of St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and a life member of the Loyal Order of Moose. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting.
Funeral services for John J. Kulaga will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, to St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, 129 S. Division St., Plainfield, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Braidwood. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name can be made to Mooseheart Child City and School, Inc., or to St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church.
