Obituary of Ronald J. Berger
Ronald J. Berger
Ronald J. Berger passed away at the age of 82 on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 27, 1935 to the union of John and Bertha (nee Hoffman) Berger. Ronald was raised in Chicago, and resided in Des Plaines and Hanover Park before settling in Dixon, IL. He graduated from St. Ignatius College Prep and went on to Loyola University where he graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. He retired from Zenith in Glenview after 37 years of dedicated service. He was a member of the Dixon Elks, Dixon Knights of Columbus; he held the office of Treasurer for the Lost Lake Fishing Club in Dixon, was an active parishioner of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dixon, IL and was a former parishioner and usher at St. Ansgar Roman Catholic Church of Hanover Park, IL. Ronald was very proud of his German Heritage. He researched his family genealogy and knew the significance of his family crest. He was a collector of numerous beer steins. If he wasn’t watching the History Channel, he could be found in a chair with a good book or near some water with a fishing pole. Anyone that knew him knew that he loved to eat! Ronald was a very proud man who loved his family more than anything.
Ronald is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Janet (nee Smat) Visteen-Berger; his children, Raymond (Silvia) Berger, Dawn (Patrick) Janowski, Cynthia (Danny) Smith, Laura (Richard) Goluszka, and Anita (Scott Hill) Dierks; his grandchildren, Daniel and David Berger, Jeff, Michael, and Chris Janowski, Taylor and Rachel Smith, and Richard and Alicia Goluszka; his sister, Janet (Kenneth) Zilvitis; and his step-children, Steven and Renee Visteen. Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
