Obituary of Thomas Paul Beresky
Thomas P. Beresky, 95, of Crest Hill, IL, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2018, at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center, Joliet, IL, after a short illness due to complications from pneumonia and the flu.
Born in Sheffield, PA, he was the son of the Most Reverend Eugene and Mrs. Andrea Bereczky. He lived most of his life in the Chicago area, where he met his wife, Daphne Ogden, while earning his Juris Doctor Degree from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. They married in 1950, and moved to Hinsdale, IL, in 1955, where they put down roots for 50 years and raised 11 children.
In the late 1950s, Mr. Beresky began Self Insurers Service, Inc., in Chicago, through the law firm of Seyfarth, Shaw, Fairweather, and Geraldson, growing it to a nationwide self insurance company until his retirement in 1986 as Chairman of the Board. In 2005, he moved from Hinsdale to Crest Hill to be closer to his sons. Mr. Beresky was an avid golfer and tennis player and, after retirement, became accomplished in the preparation of gourmet meals prepared while sipping his special recipe, "Beresky Martini."
After teaching himself computer skills over 15 years ago, Mr. Beresky's daily routine included emailing and Skyping with his children, and keeping up with CNN and the stock market. His age never blunted his intellect, care, or humor. We miss you, Dad! Rest in peace.
He is survived by two sons, Paul (Tina) and Peter (Mimi); four daughters, Nancy (Jana Yack), Marianne, Janice Mikovich (Gary), and Diane; 11 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Beresky was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; wife, Daphne; and five children, Chuck, Barbara, Mark, Cary, and Joanne.
Funeral services for Thomas Beresky will be held on Saturday, February 24 at 10:00 a.m. at Annunciation Byzantine Catholic Church, 14610 S. Will Cook Road, Homer Glen, IL 60491.
