Age 96, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center, Joliet. Born and raised in Lockport, and a lifelong area resident. He was a graduate of the University of Minnesota, Joliet Junior College, Lockport High School Class of 1939 and Sacred Heart Grade School. Jim was a proud World War II U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, serving in the Asian and Pacific Theaters as a 1st Lieutenant, a flight instructor, and a military transport pilot. Dr. James Adelmann, D.D.S. retired in 1986 after practicing dentistry in Minnesota, Lockport and Romeoville after over 35 years of caring for his community. Dr. Adelmann’s practice continues even today with the same high standards he set many years ago. He was a lifelong member of St. Dennis Catholic Church where he started out as an altar boy.
Dr. Adelmann was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean (nee Douglas) Adelmann; beloved son, Dr. Douglas Adelmann (2007); parents, George and Florence (nee Cash) Adelmann; one brother, Donald Adelmann; and two sisters, Marqueritte Hamilton and Elizabeth Dodge.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Phyllis (nee Colonna) Adelmann of Lockport; two sons, James G. (Lynda) Adelmann, Jr. of Plainfield, and John M. (Kay) Ventura of Joliet; one daughter, Susan M. (Robbie) Darin of Joliet; one daughter-in-law, Lindy Adelmann of Montana; seven grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral Services for Dr. James G. Adelmann D.D.S. will be Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, to St. Dennis Catholic Church, 1214 S. Hamilton St., Lockport, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with full military honors conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Marine Corps. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, St. Dennis Catholic Church or Rainbow Hospice would be appreciated.
