Obituary of Melvin L. Redmon

Melvin Redmon, age 77, of Shorewood, IL passed away peacefully on Thursday March 1, 2018 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.

Melvin is survived by his loving wife Donna (nee Jouett); his children, Brian (Lorene) Redmon and Brenda (Jeff) Wardzala; his grandchildren Adam and Danielle Redmon and Jacob Wardzala; his brothers, Martin and Richard Redmon; and his cats Shadow and O.C.   

He is preceded in death by his brother, Billy Redmon; his sister, Myrtle DuVall; and parents Hughie and Leola Redmon.

Melvin was born on May 22, 1940 in Campbell, MO to Hughie and Leola.  He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1960 to 1964.  On Jan 12, 1965, he married Donna in Carlinville, IL.  Melvin worked as a drywall taper and owned his own business, Redmon Drywall, with his son from 1990-1999.  He retired from the Painters Local 33.  He was a master handyman willing to provide his skills to others throughout his life.  He was active at the VFW Cantigny Post 367 until very recently and he frequently served as the maître d’ at the Friday Fish Fry.  He was also well known for his sugar-free apple pie and homemade fudge.  He attended Grace United Methodist Church.   Mel loved spending time with his grandchildren and was an avid fan of high school theatre, marching band competitions and travel baseball during his golden years.   He also enjoyed traveling frequently in his retirement.   Branson, MO was one of his favorite destinations.

A funeral service is scheduled for Sunday March 4, 2018 4 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) in Joliet. Visitation will begin Sunday afternoon from 1 p.m. until services begin at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.  Graveside Interment will take place 10 a.m. Monday morning March 5, 2018 at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Joliet.
