I didn't know Jim (Beilin) very well at all (and mainly through a mutual friend Joe Furlan), even though we were in the same high school class. Suffice to say he was a very interesting character, to say the least, and seemed to march to his own drummer throughout his life. When my mother passed away in 2008 Beilin unexpectedly sent me a note of condolence, for which I thanked him several years later at our 50 year high school reunion. Somehow I feel I owed him and his family this message.
