I was very sorry to hear of Debby's passing. I knew here through ISPP. Her enthusiasm for teaching physics was boundless. She made bags to help new teachers find the "phun" that she never lost. She always had a smile and was always ready to share what she had learned as a teacher. She will be missed.

I was sad to hear about Debby. We worked together many summers at the summer SMILE program at IIT. She was an outstanding person. I will miss not seeing her at future ISPP meetings. My best wishes to her friends and family. Jim Szeszol

Debby was my former teacher and colleague. On my first real day at work six years ago or so, I felt like a little fish in a big pond. I had subbed full time the year before, but my first teacher institute day was stressful. I wanted to fit in, and I wanted to feel competent. That morning everyone met in the cafeteria for a continental breakfast, and I ended up sitting by myself. I was admittedly so nervous. After a few minutes, Mrs. Lojkutz asked me to join her at a table, and she asked me how my first morning was going. She told me not to be nervous, and that she was rooting for me. She had been my physics teacher in 2007, and I immediately felt more at ease. In my life it seems to always be a great teacher who steps up to the plate, challenges me, comforts in time of need, and teaches me not just the subject area, but what it means to be a good person. Mrs. Lojkutz was great at all of those things. I appreciated that morning with her and her gentle encouragement more than I can ever really say.
My heart goes out to the Lojkutz family. May peace be with you.

Debbie was a wonderful, caring, loyal person. She was very dedicated to helping others. She was generous with her time, patience, and encouraging words. She was so smart and humble, strong and determined. Her love for her family knew no bounds, her love for physics was phenomenal! She cared a lot about helping others enjoy physics and worked hard to make it easier for others.. She will MISSED but not forgotten.....she left me with so many wonderful memories for which I will always be grateful. We often talked about the common problems and challenges of being a mom, wife, and physics teacher. A rare friend indeed.....She inspired me to pursue my dreams and convinced me I could do things I never thought I could.... I consider her a true and wonderful friend. The Physics Family lost a tremendous and special physics teacher and her family lost a loving mom/wife/sister.....I am so sad....So sad to have to say goodbye way too soon .....

Debby was a very positive fellow Physics teacher that I got to know over the past 20 years through both SWSC and IIT bridge project contest. She had great ideas for teaching, but most of all enjoyed what she was doing and showed to all others around her. She will be missed.

So sorry to hear of Debbie's passing. I knew her as part of the State of Illinois physics community, often seeing her at ISAAPT meetings. Her enthusiasm for her profession was obvious. As teachers, we all hope to have an impact on our students. She clearly succeeded at this. My deepest sympathy for your loss.
