Obituary of Elizabeth L. Schmitz

"Betty"
(nee Schaar)

At the age of 89, Betty passed away peacefully on Friday, May 4, 2018, with her family by her side, at Rock Run Place.  We are sure that when she closed her eyes for the last time on this earth, she opened them to be taken into the loving arms of her husband, Bill.  She was born in Joliet, on March 21, 1929, was a lifelong resident and a graduate of Joliet Township High School, Class of 1948.  She was a member of Cantigny Post #367 Ladies Auxiliary, the Ladies of the Moose Lodge #300, and Joliet Elks Lodge #296 Auxiliary.

Betty is survived by her children, Sharon A. (Paul) Frausto of Joliet, Deborah L. (Jerry) Mosher of Montgomery, William B. (Vicki) Schmitz of Joliet, Michael J. (Lynne) Schmitz of Joliet, and Kathleen M. Schmitz of Joliet; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jack) Clark, Michelle (late Steve) Detmer, Richard P. (Captain Maria, U.S. Army) Harrigan, Sarah (Steve) Hunter, Samantha (Louis) DiCamillo, Michael Frausto, Amy (Shane Carroll) Mosher and Mallory (Megan Whisler) Mosher, William (Jennifer) Schmitz, Amanda (Jon) Casford and Nicholas Schmitz; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Justin and Jordyn Clark, Caleb (Chelsie) Carr, Katelynn Carr, Travis Detmer, Zachary and Stephanie Hunter, Brooke Samuelson, Drew DiCamillo, Xander, Margaret, and Vivian Mosher, Elena Carroll, Cassidy Schmitz, Madison and Megan Casford; her sister-in-law, Mary Louise (the late Bernard) Stahoviak, Karen (Dick) Bazzarone, Noreen (Tom) Bussey, and Virginia Farrell, and brother-in-law, James (Josephine) Schmitz, all of whom she thought of as brothers and sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded by her loving husband, William J. Schmitz (2016); two children in infancy; parents, Bernard and Bernice (nee Taylor) Schaar; one sister-in-law, Marge Simpson; and one brother-in-law Robert O. Schmitz.

The Schmitz family would like to extend their profound gratitude to the Doctors, Nurses and staff at Joliet Area Community Hospice, Rock Run Place and Alden Courts of Shorewood. Your professional and tender care was most appreciated for mom’s care and ours.
