Obituary of Melvin E. Oetter
Melvin E. “Mel” Oetter died on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at the Joliet Area Community Hospice, surrounded by his loving family. Mel was born in Joliet, to the late Fred and Verna (nee Rauworth) Oetter. He was preceded in death by his brother Eugene Oetter.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Mel is survived by his loving family and devoted wife, Mary Ann (nee Ivezich) Oetter; six children, Jacquelyn Kirkwood, James (Kathy) Oetter, Jayne (John) Hayes, Jill (Jamie) Cerutti, Jerilyn (Jeff) Kraus, and John (Amy) Oetter; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Mel was a proud U.S. Army Veteran, serving with the 984th Engineer Maintenance Company. He retired from Olin Chemical Company after 30 years of service. He attended Joliet Junior College.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the entire staff at the Joliet Area Community Hospice for the outstanding care they provided Mel and the support they gave to the Oetter family.
