Theresa (nee Hurley) Clarke

Obituary of Theresa V. (nee Hurley) Clarke

Age 91, of Shorewood, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, surrounded by her loving family.  Born and raised on the Southside of Chicago in the Irish neighborhood of Canaryville.  She was baptized, educated and married at St. Gabriel Catholic Church. After her marriage to Robert Clarke, they moved into a three flat building in Canaryville with all of her family.  She was a very special aunt and was like a second mother to all of her nieces and nephews.  Theresa was called  the “Spoiler” because she treated the nieces and nephews so well, spoiled them and returned them home to their parents.  She was a dog lover and an avid White Sox fan.

Theresa was preceded in death by her late husband, Robert Clarke; Parents, William and Catherine “Kitty” (nee Strohmaier) Hurley; two sisters, Catherine (Kate) Fogarty and Patricia “Patsy” Sheehan; three brothers, William Hurley, Joseph Hurley and James Hurley.

Theresa was a beloved aunt and best friend of Sharon (Chuck) Miller of Shorewood, Marian (John) Hayes of Palos Hills, John (Janet) Fogarty of Bourbonnais, Cassie (Andy) Anderson of Chicago, Colleen Fogarty, Evlynne (Mike) Stuckly of Tinley Park, Theresa (Mike) Bernats of Worth, Ed Hurley of Chicago, Patrick Hurley of Shorewood, William Hurley,  and her “favorite” Mary Kay Hurley of Oak Lawn.  She was preceded in death by five nephews, Carl Fogarty, Michael Fogarty, Gary Fogarty, James Hurley and Joseph Hurley.  Theresa also had numerous great nieces, great nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Theresa is survived by her adopted son, Charles (Claudia) Clarke of Frankfort; three grand children Josh, Robyn and Camille.  One sister-in-law, Evlynne Hurley of Oak lawn.

Theresa was a kind, giving, gentle and generous woman to all who crossed her path in life.  She always enjoyed her neighbors in Canaryville and in Shorewood.  One of her favorite places was the Dell Webb Community Shorewood Glen, where she immersed herself in their lifestyle and the community.  She could be seen everywhere and in the middle of everything, which is just the way she liked it.  The many friendships and relationships she forged were cherished by her.  Theresa was the same way with her family; she held them very close and in the highest regard and her love for them knew no bounds. Before being admitted to the Joliet Area Community Hospice center, she resided at the Timbers of Shorewood.  Her most recent church family was Holy Family Catholic Church in Shorewood.
