Obituary of Doris Jean Smith

(nee Pray)

Age 87, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at home surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in Necedah, WI, on June 19, 1931, to the late Nels and Rosie (nee Young) Pray.  

Doris enjoyed quilting and spending time with her children and grandchildren.  She donated over one hundred quilts to Project Linus.  Doris was employed with Valley View School District from 1974 to 1994.

She was preceded by her parents; husband, Albert M. Smith (2011) whom she married July 21, 1951; and her siblings, Elsworth Pray, Daisy Emerson, Angeline Luke, Peggy Howland, Bonnie Voznak, Sonia Lang, and Mildred Voltz.

Doris is survived by three daughters, Dr. Pat (Don) Kupina of Crest Hill, Joan Beich-Amling of Tallahassee, FL and Sandra Bowen of Eastpoint, FL; two sons, Albert E. (JoAnne) Smith of Plainfield and Keith  Smith of Braidwood; 12 grandchildren, Amanda (Justin) Wagner, Donny Kupina, Albert E. (Lindsey) Smith, Jr., Mike (Katie) Smith, Bob (Stephanie) Smith, Brad and Matt Beich, Rebecca (Robert) Bacci, Sabrina (Josh) Stevens, David (Laura) Bowen, Kevin (Christina) Smith, Kelsey Smith; nine great grandchildren, Heather and Rosie Smith, Kayla Wagner, Isabella and Bobby Bacci and Aubrie and Wyatt Smith, Weston Smith and Brooklynn Jean Smith; siblings, June Martinec, Jean Cieman and Beverly Skinner; and her faithful canine companion, "Taffy".

Visitation for Doris Jean Smith will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2018, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds, Joliet.  Cremation rites will follow the visitation.  Inurnment will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to the Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated.  For more information, please call 815-741-5500 or visit her Memorial Tribute at www.fredcdames.com
