Obituary of John F. Egizio, Jr.
John F. Egizio, Jr., age 73, formerly of Joliet, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2018, at his home in Marathon, FL, with his loving wife by his side. He was the son of the late John F., Sr. and Mary Catherine (nee Simunovich) Egizio.
John was a 50 year member of both the 3rd Degree and 4th Degree (Joliet Assembly #204) of the Knights of Columbus, serving the order as District Deputy, Grand Knight and Faithful Navigator. He was employed by Caterpillar, Joliet, for 31 years, and was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served two years in Germany. John was most proud of his service in pro-life activities through the Knights of Columbus and served on the boards of Illinois Natural Family Planning Association and Natural Family Planning Life Institute. He was active in his parish, often serving daily Mass and as Minister of the Eucharist at St. John the Baptist Parish, Joliet, and at San Pablo, Marathon. John delighted in his grandchildren and was "Papa John" to Sophia who will miss him dearly. He was “Papa-John-not-the-pizza” to the entire Stanley Switlik School community in Marathon, where he volunteered regularly.
John is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary Therese (nee Murphy) Egizio; four children, Therese Ann (Tony) Fracaro of Essex, IL, Rebecca Rossi (Samantha Quigle) of Tacoma, WA, Clare Egizio (Greg Lawton) of Marathon, FL and Matthew Egizio of Orlando, FL; four grandchildren, Anthony (Emily) Fracaro of Essex, IL, Delaney Auth and Brennan Auth both of Normal, IL and Sophia Hutchins of Marathon, FL; his sister, Judy Barnes of Crest Hill, IL; and his aunt and godmother, Frances Simunovich of Joliet, IL. Numerous cousins, sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, and many dear friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jeannette Yanke.
Visitation for John F. Egizio, Jr. will be held on Sunday, August 12, 2018, from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, at 9:15 a.m., from the funeral home chapel to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 404 N. Hickory St., Joliet, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Mary Nativity Cemetery, Crest Hill.
