Georgia Clark

Obituary of Georgia Kay Clark

Georgia Kay Clark
(nee Shifflet)

Georgia Kay Clark, (nee Shifflet), was born in Lincoln, IL on July 31, 1945, and passed away peacefully, at home in Burbonnais, IL on Friday, August 17, 2018, with her loving family by her side.  Georgia was the daughter of George Burke Shifflet and Maryln Jean (nee Huffer) Shifflet, originally from Waynesville, IL.

Georgia is survived by her husband of 52 years, Raymond D. Clark; her three beloved children, Christopher (Barbara) Clark, Kimberly (Benjamin) DeShazo and Jonathan Clark; six adored grandchildren, Benjamin (Becky) DeShazo, Jr., Marissa DeShazo, Alyssum Fox, Nicholas Clark, Madeline Clark, and Sean Clark; and one very special great-grandchild, Jaxon DeShazo. Georgia is also survived by her dear brother and sisters, Dennis Shifflet, Sr., Karen (David) St. Peter, Denise “Sue” (John) Royer, and Tracy (William) Urban; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.

Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, George and Maryln Shifflet; and her cherished grandparents, Leo and Madeline (nee Green) Huffer, and George H. and Elizabeth A. (nee Burke) Brumfield.

Georgia lived most of her life in Shorewood and Joliet, IL.  She worked for over 30 years at the University of St. Francis at the book store, Registrar’s office, and the Library. She retired in 2016. Georgia’s first loyalty was to her Lord, Jesus Christ, in whose service she devoted her baptismal call to helping others to find and know Jesus. She was a member of the Cursillo spiritual renewal movement, a professed Secular Franciscan, and a devoted Associate member of the Joliet Franciscans.

Georgia’s primary devotion was to her husband and family: she provided the best of care, especially food (she was an exquisite cook), shelter (a warm, snug and cozy home), and travel and entertainment to expand their experiences of God’s world and loving family sharing.  She was known particularly for her annual Fourth of July party to beat them all: which took place at her Joliet condo right next to the Stadium, where the fireworks prevailed, many family and friends relied upon this annual patriotic and festive “reunion”.

Visitation for Georgia Clark will be held Wednesday, August 22, 2018 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Fred C.
