Obituary of Bernard Dumyahn SR

Dumyahn, Bernard T. Sr. "Bernie" Passed away unexpectedly, Monday, June 11, 2012 at the age of 80 years young. He was born August 25, 1931 in Joliet to the late Mary (nee Strametz) and Clarence Dumyahn, Sr. and was a lifetime resident. A U.S. Airforce Veteran who served as an aircraft mechanic, Bernie was a retired Steamfitter from Local #422 after many years of service, including many years with Naal Plumbing and Heating in Supervision. A lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, where he ushered for over 45 years. A member of Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge #300 and the American Italian Cultural Society. He was the beloved husband of 12 years to Rita (nee Galvan) Dumyahn; loving father of Rita (David) Skole, Roberta (David) Eberhard, Nancy (Allen) Hammond and Bernard T. Dumyahn, Jr. Dear "Dad" of Juan (Tanya) Rico, David Rico and Andy (Mary) Rico. Devoted grandpa of Sarah (Brian) White, Jeffery Skole, Matthew (Tara) Skole, Amy (Raymond) Brady, Jason (Lexi) Schladenhauffen, Julia Schladenhauffen, Abigail Hammond, Rachel Hammond, Rebekah Hammond, Maxine Dumyahn, Annie Dumyahn and Tabitha "T.J." Dumyahn as well as David Jr., Sabrina, Alexus, Mariah, Juanito and Sydney Rico. Proud great-grandpa of Brian White, Daniel White, Mason Skole, Kaleb Skole and Sawyer Schladenhauffen. Dear brother of Helen (late Donald) Malinowski and Lois (late Ronald) Smith. Brother-in-law of Dorothy Dumyahn, Robert (Rosemarie) Galvan, Joe (Lynda) Galvan, Elena (Federico) Zuniga, Manuel (Beth) Galvan, Antonio (Diane) Galvan, Yolanda (LeRoy) Rangel, Patricia (Eugene) Clark, Ricardo (Debbie) Galvan and Janie (Michael) Mendoza. Also survived by his former wife Genevieve (nee Terlep) Dumyahn, his close friends Bob Shaw, Rich Snyder, John and Linda Harris, Vic and Jackie DiNardo; many nieces, nephews and cousins as well as his canine companions, Heidi, Red and Oliver. Preceded in death by his daughter, Sally Jean Dumyahn, his parents and two brothers, Clarence "Butch" and Gilbert (late Theresa) Dumyahn. Bernie enjoyed socializing. He was proud of his family, and often would show friends and new aquaintances photos of his loved ones. He never met a stranger. "To make a long story short" he was a real people person. One of Bernie's greatest achievements was finding great peace in his life as it went on. He loved God with all his heart. Many of the best years for Bernie were since he married his beloved Rita. They enjoyed traveling, socializing and sharing a lot of good times together. Funeral services for Bernie Dumyahn will be held Friday June 15, 2012, 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park.
