Obituary of Dorothy Jean Downey

Dorothy Jean Downey passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 16, 2018, at Rock Run Memory Care in Joliet, at the age 92.  Dorothy was born on July 13, 1926, in Joliet, IL, the daughter of Thomas and Victoria (Chiaventone) Fumagalli. 

Dorothy was a member of St Mary Magdalene Church in Joliet.  She loved gardening and cooking and was always willing to help others whenever she could.  She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren.  She will be greatly missed by all her family, especially her husband Glenn of 70 years.   

Dorothy is survived by her husband Glenn J Downey; three daughters, Nancy (Ralph Dwain) Huggins of Channahon IL, Jane (Garry) Fredericks of Lexington SC, and Susan Cutright (Jim Treat) of Dieterich IL; grandchildren, Jim (Kathy) Huggins, Mike Huggins, Rev. Scott Huggins, Sean (Lauren) Fredericks, Kyle (Rachel) Fredericks, Jennifer (Jackson) Bean, Amy (Brad) Beck, Ashley (Jason) Welk, Katlyn (Joseph) Dumancas, and Matthew Cutright; numerous great-grandchildren; and her brother, Charles T. Fumagalli.  Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Doris Koenig and Irene Hert; and grandson, Joseph Huggins.  

Visitation for Dorothy Jean Downey will be held on Sunday, September 23, 2018, from 12:00p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet.  Family and friends are asked to meet on Monday, September 24, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 2220 Lisson Road, Naperville where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am with Rev. Scott Huggins officiating.   Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, IL.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America or Vitas Hospice would be appreciated.
