At the age of 84, Phyllis passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center, as the result of a heart condition, with her family by her side. Born in Chicago, she was a Crest Hill resident for the past 20 years. Phyllis retired after many years of service as the chief telephone operator for the Chicago Police Department. She loved playing bingo and was an experienced afghan maker and lived to spend time with her grandchildren.
Phyllis was preceded by her parents, William and Rose Degnan; five sisters, Kay, Florence, Eleanor, Elaine and Rosemary; and four brothers, William, James, Jack and George.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Donald S. Tomczak of Crest Hill, IL; two sons, Donald J. Tomczak of Frankfort, IL and Jeffery (Amy) Tomczak of Homer Glen, IL; one sister, Patricia (John) Crotty of Crest Hill, IL; and six grandchildren, Ursulina and Rose Tomczak, and Alison, Daniel, Emily and Michael Tomczak. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends, Gerald Wesolowski and Marcy Aschbenner, also survive.
Funeral services for Phyllis Tomczak will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at 9:15 a.m., from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, to Holy Family Catholic Church, 600 Brook Forest Ave., Shorewood, for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Romeoville.
