Obituary of Sister M. Sylvia Post, OSF
Sister M. Sylvia Post, OSF (1937 – 2018) died at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, Joliet, Illinois, on November 5. A native of Boston, Massachusetts, she was the eldest of four children born to Josephine (LaGaccia) and Earnest Post. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her brother, Dr. Albert (Claudia) Post of Pensacola, Florida and her two sisters: Marie (Steven) Schultz of Rockford, IL and Judith Baker of Rockland, Maine. Sister Sylvia was a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate (Joliet) for 63 years.
Sister Sylvia graduated from St. Francis Academy, now Joliet Catholic Academy, Joliet, IL. She received her Bachelor of Arts with a major in English Literature from the College of St. Francis (now University of St. Francis) Joliet, Illinois. She has a Master of Education in guidance and counseling from DePaul University. She received a master’s degree in Adult Christian Community Development from Regis College in Denver, Colorado and then furthered her education at the Institute for Spirituality and Worship of the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, California.
From 1957 until 1974 Sister Sylvia taught in grade schools in the Chicago, Romeoville area. After serving as guidance counselor at St. Pius X School in Lombard, Sister became a Pastoral Minister in Michigan and Ohio. In 1994 she assumed the position of Pastoral Associate for Adult Formation at the Church of Presentation in Stockton, California where she ministered for 18 years. In 2012 Sister Sylvia returned to Joliet, taking up residence at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home
The wake for Sister Sylvia will be at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet, IL, (Wyoming and Rt. 30) on Friday, November 9, 2018 from 2:00 – 6:45 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 4:45 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Procession will leave from Our Lady of Angels on Saturday morning, November 10, 2018, at 8:30 a.m. Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, IL.
