Obituary of Helen Frances Townley
Helen FrancesTownley (Houser)
Helen Frances Townley (Houser), 90, of New Lenox, formerly of Mattoon, IL, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, surrounded by love. She was born on November 6, 1928 and grew up in Kings Mountain, NC. Helen received her Associates Degree in Accounting from Joliet Junior College.
Helen was a devout Christian who stayed active in her church and with world missions; she even traveled to Mexico in her later years to help build a school. She was the organizer and a member of Theos Women’s Group in Mattoon, IL for several years before returning to the New Lenox area. Always putting the needs of others before her own, she was a caregiver to those in need. When she wasn’t taking care of those around her, she enjoyed crocheting and quilting. She was a very talented seamstress and had the honor of making one of her daughter’s wedding gowns, along with all of the dresses in the bridal party. Helen was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother who always put her family first. She will be truly missed by everyone who loved her.
Helen is survived by her children, Mary (Duane) Ullrich, Carol (Richard) Talaga, Melody (the late Eugene) Payne and Donna (David) Butler; eight grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Rev. John L. Houser and Allen E. Townley; her mother, Olie White; and her sister, Joyce Pursley.
The family would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to the entire staff of the Joliet Area Community Hospice for all of their kind and compassionate care and support.
