Bernie is a great man. One the best that I've ever had the pleasure to work with. Bernie set the standard for excellence. If you needed something to get done Bernie was the one to make it happen. The ALNC Memorial Squad would not be the organization it is without Bernie. I will miss him. God bless you Bernie. You are loved.

I’m proud to say I knew Bernie, a little bit. I was one of the last to be trained by him on the ALNC Honor Guard. It didn’t take long after meeting him, you could sense his grit and gristle. He never wore his combat experience on his sleeve, but you could see that fire burning behind his eyes. I can’t imagine the comrades he saw die, and he soldiered on. I will try to emulate his bearing, and hope I can be a trainee he would be proud of. To the Honor Guard, Bernie was Blood and Guts. He bent us old bastards back into some semblance of military order, and I know every one of us has an undying respect for the man. I could not be prouder to have been connected, even in a small way, to this great American, and I am grateful that he spent some of his precious time to make me a part of this great unit, the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Honor Guard. Thank you Bernie.

Like so many, Bernie trained me on the Memorial Squad and set the standard to be followed. He was a man deserving of great respect and I appreciate him so much. I am going to miss him. I just loved the way he approached life and all those around him. Bernie will always be with us in our memories and in the things that we do to complete our mission of honoring veterans. Thank you to the family for sharing him with us. I pray for God's peace in your time of sorrow.

A great guy. My trainer for Memorial Squad. You had to do it right or Bernie would have practice over and over. He was all about commitment and honor for the veterans. He will be missed. Welcome home Betnie
