Roger D. Lonergan

Roger D. Lonergan, Sr., age 70, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 13, 1948 in Kankakee, IL to Alyosius J. Lonergan and Dolores (nee Riordan).

Roger retired from the State of Illinois in 2014 with 36 years of service. He enjoyed watching his TV shows, golfing, and spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Roger made the best popcorn and was a pro at cooking out on the grill. He was a simple man with a big heart, true work ethic, and always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Doris J. (nee McDermott); two sons, Roger Jr. and Matt (Tara Taft) Lonergan; three grandchildren, Connor, Morgan, and Brittanyrose; siblings, Rick (Linda), Jeff (Marcia), Rosemary (Kim), and Diane Williams; dear uncle of many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services for Roger D. Lonergan will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2018, at  9:15 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet, IL, to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 404 N. Hickory St., Joliet, IL, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. As it was his request, cremation rites will be accorded following Mass. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to Joliet Area Community Hospice, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, or the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary – Office of Development, would be appreciated.
