Obituary of Dorothy June Rushton

Dorothy June Rushton, age 77, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, December 25, 2018, at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.  She was born February 16, 1941 in Taylorville, IL, to the late Arlis and Dorothy (nee Mallonee) Mayes.  Dorothy worked many different jobs in her life; her favorites were the ones where she could talk to people from all different walks of life.  She was one of the first female cab drivers in Joliet for many years.  Later in life, Dorothy went back to school and became a CNA.  In her retirement, she was a volunteer foster grandparent at Pershing School in Joliet.  

Dorothy is survived by her six children, Kim (Mike) Specht of Minooka, Jason (Shelly) Rushton of Southern Illinois, RaeAnn (Tim) Lanchaster of Ottawa, Paul Mayes of Montana, Daniel O’Connell of California, and Jerry Joe O’Connell of California; 14 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don Rushton; siblings, Jimmy (Bessy) Mayes, Tommy (Doris) and Eugene (Elva) Mayes; and two infant sisters, Donna Dee and Patty Mayes.
