Obituary of Charlotte J. Stemke
Charlotte J. Stemke, (nee Pilewski), age 88, of Joliet, passed away peacefully, Friday, February 15, 2019 at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home.
Born Wlodeslawa Pilewski on July 30, 1930 in Chicago, she was the daughter of Szczepan “Steven” and Catherine (nee Skowron) Pilewski. She changed her name later in life to Charlotte but was affectionately known by her family as “Lola”. She retired from Commonwealth Edison after 42 years of service.
Charlotte was a loving and devoted wife, sister, aunt and friend who will be remembered for her love of chocolates and the Chicago Cubs.
She was preceded by her beloved husband, Lavern F. Stemke (February 6, 2018); her parents; three brothers, Chester Pilewski, Henry Pilewski and Walter Pilewski; and three sisters, Jane Pilewski, Alice Pilewski, and Irene Pilewski.
She is survived by one sister, Dolores Wojtysiak; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends, including Diana Wysocki and family.
Funeral Services for Charlotte J. Stemke will be Friday, February 22, 2019 at 9:15 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet, to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
