Obituary of Lois Jean Anzalone

Lois Jean Anzalone, (nee Gans), passed away on Friday, February 15, 2019 at the age of 86, at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, with her family by her side.

She was born November 23, 1932 in Joliet, IL, the eldest of seven children.  She attended Rockdale Grade School and graduated from Providence High School in Joliet on May 26, 1951.  As a young woman, Lois enjoyed dancing and going to movies with friends.  She met the love of her life at the Catholic Social Club in Joliet.  On May 1, 1954, she married Angelo Dominic Anzalone and was later blessed with five children.  For 16 years, she worked at the Credit Bureau of Will County.  She later retired from Joliet Paint in 1984, after 16 years of dedicated service. 

Lois was an active member of St. Paul’s Parish in Joliet, and was a member of St. Paul’s Paulites and Christian Women.  She enjoyed going out for lunch and dinner with good friends, sewing and quilting, and attending charity events throughout the Joliet area.  She was a wonderful cook, known for her excellent Italian dishes, Christmas cookies and poticas, and annual corned beef and cabbage dinner on St. Patrick’s Day.  Lois was well-known for her generosity, deep faith, and love of family and life. 

Preceded in death by her husband, Angelo D. Anzalone; her parents, Albert and  Helen (Likar) Gans; her brothers, Albert and Richard Gans; sisters-in-law, Nora (Joseph) Brulc, and Josephine (George) Keenon; and brother-in-law, Thomas (Ann) Anzalone.

Survived by her children, Michael Anzalone (Significant Other-Maria Georgantas), Elaine (Vic) Del Mastro, Angela (Tom) Kale, Joseph (Karen) Anzalone and Thomas (Julie) Anzalone; grandchildren, Brian (MacKenzie) Kale, Shannon (Jake) Klotz, Raffaella, Victor and Andrew Del Mastro, and Maria and Dominic Anzalone; dear great-grandson, Joseph Klotz; her brothers, Ronald (MaryLou), James, and Paul (Laura) Gans; her sister, Nancy Bailey-Fury; sisters-in-law, Doris Harringan and MaryLou Gans; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

The family would like to thank Our Lady of Angels Nursing Home, Joliet Area Community Hospice and Amita Presence St. Joseph Medical Center for their loving care and support. 

Memorials to Our Lady of Angels and Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated.

Funeral services for Lois J. Anzalone will be held Friday, February 22, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 18 N. Woodlawn, Joliet, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m.  Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery.  Visitation will be Thursday, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
