Becky,
Many fond memories of your father, from our dance classes at Shirley's, swimming in his pool, to putting the books together at Rovanco for poms. Thinking of you and your family during this difficult time.

My Father’s Brother / My friend 3/25/19
I simply have to begin by taking note of this absolutely beautiful day. I am not sure if Larry was still at home this morning who he would have called at 7am to state the same since, we are all gathered here instead.
This is a day, like yesterday, to celebrate Larry’s life. Far easier said than done, I know.
Five minutes, five hours, five days would not do justice in speaking about this man. When I was asked to give the eulogy to close this service, I knew it would be the easiest and the hardest thing I may ever have the opportunity to do. Starting would be easy, but where to stop would be the struggle. Within moments I began making mental and written notes that came quickly to mind. Much of what I share today I feel certain will ring true for most, if not all in this room. I was encouraged to keep my time under five minutes, which I agreed to. But that was then, and this is now. Just kidding.
Here today we have a common thread in each of our lives, and that is Larry Stonitsch. Whether it was on a wrestling mat, at work, or a meaningful moment away from either of those, he pushed, pulled, yelled or spoke loudly to challenge us or correct us where he believed we needed it. I was certainly no exception and it was in these times that he was actually demonstrating true care for those involved. It was only when he said nothing at all that demonstrated that he did not care. He never asked or expected anything from anyone he did not first expect from himself. Sleeping in in the morning meant starting work at 7am AND 7am meant being there at a quarter til. He always favored attitude over ability in that talent is temporary and focused, whereas a positive attitude is widespread and can serve a person for a lifetime.
The two greatest influences in my life have been my father, and fortunately for me, his older brother! They knew each other’s strengths and weaknesses. With that understanding they started a pre-insulated pipe manufacturing company in 1969. They had very little money and not too much more knowledge on the product. A gentleman overhead Larry discussing this new idea and offered him an old lumberyard building in Crest Hill free of charge for the first six months for Larry to get started. If the product and the manufacturing process worked out, then rent would begin on the seventh month. Rovanco celebrates 50 years in business this year.
He lived large with his ideas, vision, and endless energy. He never failed at anything from the perspective that he never ceased trying to accomplish what either he was told could not be done or has never yet been done. He was the most self-educated individual most of us will ever know. When he was not designing, pricing, selling, or sleeping, he was reading Thermal Energy magazines, equipment brochures, the Wall Street journal among many others. This is NOT what your average C student from Joliet Township High School does after they graduate.
Larry has always been quick to point out that NO ONE has every accomplished anything significant on their own. He did not seek glory but always strove for success. He has travelled to almost every country in the world, and many of them multiple times.
At the other end of the spectrum he took great pleasure in nature’s beauty at his lake house. Whether feeding the fish, cutting the grass, planting or harvesting from the garden, or planting another evergreen in the yard upon the birth of another grandchild, his home was where his heart was. Boat rides, skiing, snowmobiling, rope swings, wave runners, volleyball etc. Larry loved to entertain, welcome, and be in the presence of people enjoying themselves, especially kids. Which brings me to the absolute best for last.
Larry’s family. His greatest love.
I do not know how to separate each of you from the other and perhaps because I can not. Cyndi…this entire gathering here today knows the enormous love and devotion your husband had for you, and you for him. He knew everything good in his life had your hand on it. The care and concern that you showered over him for 33 years is unmatched and unbelievable. Sharing a life with no schedule takes an incredibly patient and persevering woman. For the last three decades you have graciously and sincerely welcomed thousands of family members, friends and friends of friends into your home. Larry was a giant of a man who lived a fast paced life and was only able to excel by your love and support.
To each of Larry’s kids. Cindy, Rebecca, Mike, and Chad.
I love you all… you are just as much as brothers and sisters to me as my own siblings. Everyone who has had the unbelievable privilege of truly knowing your father through time spent owes you a level of gratitude because it came at some degree of absence from each of you. Whether from the Joliet Boys Club, to the long days at the office or business flights across the country, your sacrifice of his time allowed all of us and SO many more to reap the blessings of knowing a man who was truly one in a million. Everything he could have hoped for in each of you has come to pass. Your strength and confidence will serve you well as you will surely be in need of in the days and months ahead.
Never before and most likely never again will any of us personally know, admire, and love a man with such talents, ambitions and deep-routed love for life and for those he chose to live life with. This is not a farewell. Larry’s name will grace countless stories and memories far into the years ahead. To Larry we say thank you for the life you lived and allowing all of us to live it with you.
