Obituary of Vera Fiday

Fiday, Vera Lou "Lulu" (nee McCalla) Passed away into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, April 24, 2011 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, following complications arising from a stroke. Vera was born on June 30, 1927 in Joliet to Goldie (nee Noirfalise) and Hobart McCalla. Following graduation in 1947 from Plainfield Central High School, she married Joseph "Jay" Fiday at St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Plainfield by Fr. Ezel, and would have been married 64 years this November. They were blessed with four children. Vera was a lifelong wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and volunteer. Her favorite activity in later life was her role as a volunteer for over 17 years at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center mostly in the Cancer Care Center. She had a great success in all her endeavors. Leaving a large void in the family, Vera will be deeply missed by her husband, Joseph "Jay" Fiday; children, David Fiday, Deborah (James) Theobald, and Donald (Lucy Seiler) Fiday; her sister, Velma (Letha) Parker; grandchildren, Jennifer (Dennis) Waller, Michelle (Tim) Schaefer, Jessica (Matt) Kirkpatrick, Melissa (Abe) Miller, Andrew Lee Fiday, and Jacqueline Jane Fiday; four great-grandchildren, Ava and Ethan Waller, Brooklynn Schaefer, and Aidan Kirkpatrick; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by her daughter, Denise Fiday; parents, and brothers, Vincent and Kenneth. Funeral Services for Vera Lou Fiday will be Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 9:45 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery, Romeoville. The Fiday Family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center and Joliet Area Community Hospice for their compassionate care that was provided Lulu. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to Joliet Area Community Hospice or the Cancer Care Center of Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center would be appreciated.
