Sean M. Sterr
Age, 60 years young. Sean suddenly passed away Sunday morning, August 4, 2019, after a beautiful weekend celebrating his parents’ 63rd wedding anniversary on a family boat cruise and a night of love and friendship at the Shindig.
Sean is survived by his wife and best friend, Rita (nee Ochs) Sterr; his beloved children, Katie Sterr and John (Kristina) Churchwell II; proud Pappy of John Raymond “LJ” and Isla Mae Churchwell; his loving parents, Pat and Jerry Sterr; his favorite sister, Kelly (Tim) Ruettiger; his dear brothers, Jeff (Julie), Patrick, Todd, and Craig (Debbie) Sterr; brother-in-law, Donnie Ochs; sisters-in-law, Carol Whalen and Judy Knight; much-loved nephews and nieces, Patrick, Jamie (Sean), Danny, Jake, Maggie (Kyle Dooley), Nicole, Shannon, Jeremy, Kylie, Scott and Jessica (Matt); and so many dear friends.
Sean was born on January 7, 1959 in Joliet, Illinois. Graduate of St. Jude’s Grade School, proud alum of Joliet Catholic High School (#42), and JJC. Sean was such a kind soul and he had the biggest heart. Always willing to put aside whatever he was doing to lend a helping hand to his friends and family, with a smile on his face that was contagious to anyone he encountered. Sean lived life to the fullest and truly did it his way. Sean was an avid Green Bay Packers, Chicago White Sox, Notre Dame and Joliet Catholic High sports fan. His greatest joy was being little Johnny and Isla’s “Pappy”.
He was preceded in his death by his cherished nephew, Michael Sterr; grandparents, Lucille (nee Adler) and Francis McFadden and Ramona (nee Hanrahan) and Ed Sterr; as well as his uncle, John Sterr; father-in-law, Donald Ochs, Sr.; and brother-in-law, Ray Whalen.
Visitation for Sean Sterr will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2019, from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. Funeral Services Friday, August 9, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home to the Church of St. Jude, 2212 W. McDonough St., Joliet, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place in St. John Cemetery at a later date.
