In accordance with their wishes, Gene and Helen were both cremated and their ashes mixed in the same urn. They will be buried together on October 4,2019 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. The VA has not assigned a time yet, only the date.

Gene (Gramps) was a kind and warm-hearted soul in every way. Always a smile on his face and loving eyes, he was always a delight to visit with, who welcomed me to the family with open arms. His affection for his family was shown by sharing his countless joyful and often humorous stories of precious times spent together throughout his long life, and all the fun and great memories they made, that will be etched into my heart forever. Alongside his partner in life, his wife Helen, they very much enjoyed summers of travel and camping for many years, fishing, card games, time spent with their family and friends, and their love of their pet Shetland Sheepdogs, who joined them wherever they went. He had quite the Gene (Gramps) was a kind and warm-hearted soul in every way.
