Obituary of John Filipas

John Filipas Age 80. Sunday September 16,2007 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home. Born in Chicago, he was a lifelong resident of the Southwest Side of Chicago, before retiring to Joliet in 2003. A graduate of Tilden Tech High School. He was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran, part of the Army of Occupation of Japan. Formerly employed at Link Belt Heavy Equipment Manufacturing and Griffith Manufacturing, as a machinist, and an avid Chicago Bears and Chicago White Sox Fan. Preceded in death by his parents, John and Pearl Filipas; three brothers, Mark "Michael", Peter, and George, in infancy; one nephew, Paul Filipas. Survived by two sisters, Antoinette (George) Eck of Crestwood, IL and Sr. Laura Filipas , OSF of Aurora; three nieces, Laura (Don) Holm of Westmont, Grace Eck of Crestwood and Claudia (John Kossifas) Filipas of Merrionette Park; three grandnieces and a grandnephew. Funeral Services for John Filipas will be Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Ave., Joliet where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Fr. Bennett officiating. Interment St. Mary Cemetery, Evergreen Park, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate, Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, Provena Villa Franciscan or Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated.
