Ethel A. Shiffer
Ethel A. Shiffer, (nee Pierscinski), age 93, of Joliet, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at Sunny Hill Nursing Home, with her loving family by her side.
Born September 17, 1926 in East Chicago, IN to the late Stanley and Josephine (nee Zacadzka) Pierscinski, she resided in the Joliet area most of her adult life.
Ethel worked in retail for many years at Sam's Club, Osco Drugs and the former F.W. Sickles Manufacturing. In her younger years, she was a waitress at Jet's Diner and the former Stillmans Department Store in downtown Joliet, where she met her husband, the Rev. L.L. Shiffer.
They enjoyed many happy years of marriage, until his passing in 1987. In addition to her role as a Pastor's wife, which she truly embraced, she assisted in the operation of the Bible Bookstore while taking care of her family. She had boundless energy, always finding time to help those in need. Ethel enjoyed family gatherings, playing Bingo and the games "nickels", Uno and Aggravation. She will be deeply missed.
Surviving are her son, L. Donald "Don" (Judith) Shiffer; her daughter, Cheryl Agrue; grandchildren, Christine (James) Kobe, Traci (Robert) Gleason, Chad (Suzanne) Shiffer; John (Andrea) Agrue and Michael (Melanie) Agrue; nine great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter; and her siblings, Stella Pierscinski, Leo Pierscinski, Casmir "Kay" Pierscinski, Helen Barkowski and Edna Cihocki.
Visitation for Ethel Shiffer will be held on Monday, September 23, 2019, from 9:00 to11:00 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. Graveside services will be held Monday, September 23, at 11:30 a.m. at the Elmhurst Cemetery Chapel, 1212 E. Washington Street, Joliet. Rev. Sherry Steele will officiate. Interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery, Joliet.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated.
