Obituary of Stefan Lys

Stefan Lys, age 97, of Lake Geneva, WI, passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 13, 2019.  Born in Poland, emigrating to the United States in 1949, living in Shorewood for ten years then relocating to Lake Geneva one year ago.  Stefan was a jack of all trades as well as a self-taught man.  He owned and managed several apartment buildings on Chicago’s north side.  Stefan was a traditionalist who chopped his own wood with an axe and a wedge.  He was affectionately known as the “woodman”.

Stefan is survived by his two sons, Peter (Dawn) Lys of Shorewood and Stefan (Helene) Lys, Jr. of Chicago; grandchildren, Bradley, Brittany, and Alexander Lys; his great-grandson, Beau Lys; and son-in-law, Joe Nienajadlo.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Kataryna (1976); son, Michael Lys (1968); daughter, Olga Nienajadlo; as well as his parents, brothers, and sisters, all in the Ukraine.

Visitation for Stefan Lys will be Sunday, November 17, 2019, from 12:00 until 4:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds, Joliet.  Funeral Services will be Monday, November 18, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Saint Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, 8851 W Higgins Rd, Chicago, IL 60656, where interment will follow.  Memorials in his name to any animal welfare organization of your choice would be appreciated.
