Lester August Peters
Lester August Peters, of Kankakee, passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2019, at Heritage Manor in Dwight, IL surrounded by the love of his family. Les was born in Chicago Heights, IL on August 23, 1924, the son of the late Anton and Lydia (Toepfer) Peters. He was a graduate of Thornton Township High School, Class of 1942 and was a proud veteran of the United States Navy Seabees in WWII. Les married the love of his life, Shirley Weichbrodt in 1951. They relocated to Kankakee, IL where they built a life together and raised their three children. Les retired in 1982 from Northern Illinois Gas Company after a long, dedicated career as a Construction Manager.
Les enjoyed vacationing with his family, boating, woodworking, and remote control model airplanes. His true passion was photography. He was a member of photography clubs, model airplane clubs, he was a former member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Kankakee, and was proud to be a lifetime member of the NRA. Les was a man that kept himself busy fixing anything and everything. He was a mentor and role model to all that knew him; he led by example and was an inspiration to all. He will truly be missed by all that loved him.
Les is survived by his two sons, Tom David Peters and Tim (Marsha) Peters; one daughter, Vicki (Bob) Wagner; grandson, RJ Wagner; and his brother-in-law, Grant Weichbrodt.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Shirley (Weichbrodt) Peters; his parents; and his brother, Anton Peters.
Visitation for Lester August Peters will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service at 5:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 1201 W. Route 6 (at Deerpath Dr.), Morris, IL 60450. Interment will be held privately by the family at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Frankfort, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to Joliet Area Community Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL 60431 or First Christian Church, 455 W Southmor Rd, Morris, IL 60450, would be appreciated.
