Obituary of Gary W. Martin

Age 80, of Channahon, IL passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2019 at home. He was born March 28, 1939, to the late Ruth and Theodore Martin in Lyons, IL. Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Susan (nee Kurnat) Martin; two daughters, Sharon (Dan) Armstrong and Kathy (Rob) Maas; four grandchildren, David (Jackie) Armstrong, Gary (Danielle) Maas, Scott Maas and Heather Maas; one sister, Patricia (Jim) MacDougal; three brothers, Marshall (Joyce), Dennis (Sharon) and Michael (Maggie) Martin; many nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, Gary is also preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Phillip Martin, as well as one sister, Joan Mendez. An outdoorsman, Gary enjoyed hunting and fishing. However, his main interest was showing his Beagles and German Wirehair Pointers. He was a retired Ironworker who was employed at Martin Cement Co. for many years. Visitation for Gary Martin will be Saturday, December 28, 2019, from 1:00– 4:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) Joliet. A Prayer Service will conclude the afternoon at 4:00 p.m. As it was Gary’s wish, cremation rites will be accorded.
