Kokalj, Betty L.
(nee Kranz)
Age 77. Suddenly, Friday, November 23, 2012 at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center with her family by her side, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Lockport, she was a lifelong Joliet area resident. A member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Cantigny Post #367 and the American Slovenian Home. A dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, her greatest love was to care for her family and friends. There is nothing in the world that a good polka couldn't cure. She loved her Polka music and was always enjoying the festive atmosphere at St. Joseph's Park.
Preceded in death by her husband, Leroy S. Kokalj (2001); her daughter, Kathy Yirsa (2012); parents, Harry and Edith (nee Smith) Kranz; one brother, Harry "Butch" (Betty) Kranz, Jr.; six sisters, Doris, Myrtle, "Toots", Beverly, Marilyn and Darlene.
Survived by three sons, Ron (Michelle) of Minooka, Ken (Linda) of Joliet and Len (Michelle) Kokalj of Channahon; one daughter, Maryanne (Gordon) Holmes of Minooka; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Gil of Odell, IL; two brothers, Lloyd (Shirley) Kranz of Lockport and Raymond Kranz of Evansville, MN; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral Services for Betty L. Kokalj will be Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Brent Molskness officiating. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Visitation Monday 4-8 p.m. at:
