Words cannot express how deeply sorry we are at David’s passing. We feel blessed that we were able to spend so much time with him over the last 20 years. So many happy cherished memories of David and the rest of the cul-de-sac crew. Our warmest memories are when the kids were out playing after dark (usually flashlight tag). The windows facing your house were usually open and we could hear the kids giggling as they were hiding. Judy, you’d call for the kids to come home and no matter at what point the kids were at in the game, David would hear his name and instantly take off for home. We knew when David left our yard because we’d hear the gate slam and then see him swiftly scurrying home under the light from the street lamp. Our fence gates were always shut so that Lola couldn’t escape, which everyone in the neighborhood knows, she loved to do. We’d always have to remember to go out and shut the gate latch because Lola would end up disappearing. And if Lola escaped, we’d always say “David forgot to latch the gate again.” He never dilly dallied when mom called him home. He always promptly left whereas our kids would ignore us and we’d have to go find them. He was an important and beloved part of our family and we certainly are going to miss his smile around our house. Thank you for sharing him with us.

Hey neighbors,
I can’t imagine what it’s like to lose a son/brother, but just know that we were with him and kept his spirits up along the way. I heard the priest during the service mention to share a story so I thought I would tell one from a year ago right around this time. So David wanted to go to an Indy 500 and he convinced Alex and I to go to it the weekend before our wedding that he was in. He had all these ideas about getting an RV and spending the night but we eventually settled on getting tickets in turn 4. He asked for my address so he could mail me the tickets so they didn’t get stolen from his Chicago address. The day before when he got to my apartment he got me an ice cream cake from DQ since it was birthday that day, a really kind gesture. In true David fashion he said the tickets were digital and we’d print them off before we left in the morning. At 8am we hear him freaking out because when he checked his tickets they weren’t there. Supposedly he never closed out his order and so we were scrambling as we drove down to Indy to buy some. Once we got to Indy we found parking over an hour in walking distance away from the track and had to haul our coolers by hand. As frustrated as we were the day was amazing. A few days before his passing during one of our many phone calls we talked about going this August to the rescheduled Indy 500. We were determined to do it right with an RV and many friends. I’ll never forget his constant randomness throughout my childhood and even lately to go on trips and visit me in college. He always meant well and to live life to the fullest. I’ll never forget that. I hope to see you all soon once these tough times subside.

Aunt Judy, Uncle Rick, and Jennifer,
David was incredibly kind-hearted, humorous, driven, and adventurous. I’m so happy we were close enough in age that we were able to share so many memories growing up together! From playing marco polo in the swimming pool in the summers to playing hide and seek in Grandma's basement, David was always ready for fun! I always looked forward to seeing what David brought to the yearly Christmas gift exchange. My favorite being the year of the ramen noodles! The service and memorial video were beautiful! David will be missed dearly.
Love,
Holly

Rick, Judy, and Jennifer, I am so sorry for your loss. Zach and I just finished watching the streaming service. David was such a good kid. More than that, he was a great friend to Zach. Zach was really crushed when he heard of Davids passing. As we watched the service, we talked about the trips he and Zach went on, the bonfires with the neighborhood gang, the wiffle ball games, ICS basketball, and disc golf. I am proud to say I was a friend of your son. God Bless.

David was always such a polite, friendly young man. We both have fond memories of the many times he entered our house to see our son or to join a gathering of their friends. He always had a smile on his face and rarely forgot to offer us a friendly hello before heading to the basement. At MCHS this was no different. I would see him in the hall on the way to his next class when he would Greet me with that same friendly and respectful “hello Mr. Hussey.” Although often a man of few words, he offered that same kind and caring personality to everyone. As we have recounted many memories with our son Matt, we are reminded just how special David was to so many, and just how blessed we have been to have known him. Please know that we are keeping David and your whole family in our thoughts and prayers.
Love,
Kelly and Gail Hussey

Mr. And Mrs. Martino and Jennifer,
The service for David was beautiful. So wish we could have actually been present. We are so sorry for the sudden loss of David during these already hard times. The memories of growing up as kids together on the street are always my favorite. I remember making snow forts, having squirt gun fights, him making a baseball diamond in the backyard with a lawn mower so we had bases to run, swimming in the pool, flashlight tag, and camp outs. Other great things we shared were weddings and get togethers at Christmas and New Years even after we all went off to college. These memories make me smile and put me at ease even though I wish we could talk and be with David again. I hope some of these make you smile too. Sending our deepest sympathies.

I grew up playing basketball with David. It started at ‘malls’ and progressed until we played on the varsity basketball team for Morris. David ended up going to Illinois State where I would visit at least once a month.
Dave and I continued our friendship as we both moved to Chicago around the same time. Dave would come over and we’d play basketball and video games almost weekly. Dave and I would always look for cheap tickets near wrigley before the games and attend as many as we could. Dave and I even went to a Cubs playoff game together at the rooftop bars across from Wrigley.
I moved to Arizona about 4 years ago, and Dave would Text me every time he came out to AZ. Likewise, when I would come back home to Illinois, Dave would be the first guy to want to grab a drink with me. I guess what i’m trying to say is, Dave is the type of guy who would make time for you no matter what was going on in his life.
I remember hanging out with him just 3 months ago at the phoenix open. We had a great day that day.
As my heart feels quite heavy this week, I cant imagine the grief you all are feeling right now. I am so sorry for your loss.
I’ll always cherish our friendship David.
your buddy,
Andy Oehlwein

Hello to the family and friends of David. I am one of the nurses that took care of him. Please know that I work with very friendly, caring, and compassionate nurses, aides, doctors, and other staff and we were there for him when you could not be. I could not believe how tall he was, I asked him if he wanted me to order a special bed cause his feet dangled out the end and he said no, he liked his feet to breathe. He received a big box of goodies from a friend and he had me give him his gummy candy and other candy and said it was like Christmas to keep looking for something else in the box. One day I overheard him talking about some money he made on a trade, talking business with a friend and there was laughter coming from his room as they talked. He enjoyed playing his xbox games with his friends. He was very caring and one of our aides was talking to him about working a lot of hours and he told him to take care of himself. David never really complained or got angry, we'd offer sleep medication or nausea medication and he said he didn't need it, he didn't like how it made him feel, he didn't complain of pain, he seemed comfortable. I will talk with some other staff and try to relay some more stories of taking care of him as I'm sure you have many questions. Our heart is broken and we hope you can find strength and comfort from God as He is there for you. God bless.
