Obituary of Thomas Anzalone
Thomas Anzalone
Age 87, of Joliet, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Provena Villa Franciscan. Born May 4, 1921 in Joliet, he was the son of Rosario and Rose (nee Cusimano) Anzalone. A World War II veteran of the United States Army, he participated in the Normandy Invasion, June 6, 1944 with the 89th Infantry Division, and in the Battle of the Bulge and the liberation of the Ohrdruf-Nord concentration camp in Germany. He was a 60 year member of American Legion Post #1080.
Tom worked for US Steel for over 25 years, and later was a driver for the Illinois Department of Transportation. He was a member of the Church of St. Anthony, and also served on the Board of Directors of Italian Benevolent Society of Santa Fortunata of Joliet and New Century Credit Union.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Anna (nee Budaj) Anzalone; one daughter, Susan (William) Anzalone-Gowan of Joliet; one son, Russell (Joan) Anzalone of Des Plaines; one granddaughter, Kathryn Anzalone; one niece, Mary Lynn (Tim) Bergeson; and one nephew, George (Sharon) Keenon.
Preceded by his parents; one grandson, Ryan Anzalone; one brother, Angelo Anzalone; and two sisters, Nora Brulc and Josephine Keenon.
Funeral services for Thomas Anzalone will be Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to the Church of St. Anthony for Mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated. Visitation Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. at:
