Obituary of Kelly P. Holmes
age 59, of Plainfield, passed away suddenly, Monday, May 18, 2020, in the Emergency Room of Presence St. Joseph Medical Center.
Kelly was born July 31, 1960, in Elkhart, IN to the late Stanley D. and Sally Joan (Riley) Troyer. Her family relocated to Elmhurst, IL, and graduated from York Township High School with the Class of 1978, where she played flute in the school band. She returned to Indiana to work as a dispatcher for Elkhart County. She then moved to Springfield, IL with her parents where she served as a dispatcher for DuPage County, later becoming a field agent for the Inspector General’s Office in Springfield and DuPage County. When Kelly met her husband, Mike, they moved to Lombard, IL.
In 1995, they built a home in Plainfield, where they lived with their family until the time of her passing.
She received her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Sociology from DePaul University in 1983, and her Master’s degree in Education from the University of St. Francis in 2006. She then went to work for Troy Cronin Elementary School District 30-C as a 2nd-grade teacher and went on to serve as a caring and dedicated 3rd-grade teacher for 14 years. She was the proud recipient of the Great Teacher Award in Joliet from the Chamber of Commerce and also the Teacher of the Year Award from the Kiwanis Club. During her many years as a teacher at Cronin, she instituted and coordinated the Veterans Day Celebrations, served on the Building Leadership Team and also served as a mentor for the 1st year teachers. The children say she was funny, caring, and made learning fun.
Kelly and her husband, Mike, coordinated the VBS program for Fountain of Life Church where they also taught Sunday School.
Surviving are her beloved husband, Michael Patrick Holmes of Plainfield; her four loving children, Aaron Joseph (Victoria) Holmes of Plainfield, Ethan Michael Holmes of Plainfield, Elijah Charles Holmes currently serving with the United States Air Force in South Korea; and Sarah Elizabeth Holmes of Plainfield; one sister, Gayle Kathleen (Mark) Gissy; one brother, David Stanley (Shari) Troyer; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Kelly Holmes will be private and interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
